The Bureau’s now renown ‘Ignorance is no defence’ talk, has been given to customers,
trade associations, business park membership groups, CII and BIBA members, FSB members
and local councils. The talk includes video commentary from the police, cyber crime victims,
lawyers, brokers, university lecturers and security experts and features a demo of a Hack into
a typical office network. There is also a funny Facebook video that demonstrates how easy it
is to be ‘hoodwinked’.
This is followed by a discussion on how
office cyber security and staff awareness
can be improved through training and
the adoption of the Government backed
Cyber Essentials Certifi cation scheme.
By making cyber-security a priority fi rms
will become better able to guard their IT
systems, staff, business reputation, future
success and be less vulnerable to cyber
crime, fraud and extortion.
Press coverage has focussed heavily on the cyber breaches suffered by giant corporations like
ABTA, British Airways, Carphone Warehouse, Deloitte, Facebook, Google, J P Morgan,
Linked In, Moonpig, Netflix, Sony, TalkTalk, Target Data, Wonga , Yahoo and others.
The reality is that SMEs are also a prime target.
This and last year are record breaking years for cyber crime, when more malware, malicious
IPs, Websites, and mobile apps were discovered than in any previous year. It comes as no
surprise that cyber crime continues to thrive, as the criminals become technically smarter.
Management and employees who each imagine they are smart enough to spot the email scams,
the hacks and the ransomware denial of service attacks are turning-up to work to discover their
confidence was misplaced.
